Key Takeaways

  • Umrah in Ramadan equals Hajj in reward, as taught by the Prophet ﷺ.
  • Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin around 8 February 2027.
  • Book 3–4 months ahead – the last ten days sell out first.
  • Perform Umrah late at night or after Fajr for smaller crowds.

Breaking your fast with Zamzam and dates in the courtyard of the Haram, praying Taraweeh behind the Imams of Makkah, and seeking Laylat al-Qadr in the most sacred place on earth – Ramadan Umrah is a dream for millions of Muslims. Here is how to plan it well.

The Reward of Umrah in Ramadan

The Prophet ﷺ told a woman who had missed Hajj: “When Ramadan comes, perform Umrah, for Umrah in Ramadan is equal to Hajj.” In another narration: “…equal to Hajj with me.” (Bukhari, Muslim). It does not replace the obligatory Hajj, but its reward is immense.

Last 10 daysExtremeLaylat al-Qadr, Khatm al-Qur’an, Eid in Makkah

Ramadan 1448 AH is expected to begin around 8 February 2027 (subject to moon sighting), with pleasant winter weather in Makkah and Madinah.

Planning Checklist

  • Book 3–4 months in advance, especially for the last ten days.
  • Choose a hotel within walking distance – roads around the Haram close at peak times.
  • Check whether your package includes Suhoor and Iftar meals.
  • Install the Nusuk app – Umrah permits and Rawdah visits may require bookings during Ramadan.
  • Plan Madinah at the start or end of your trip.

A Typical Day in the Haram

  1. Suhoor & Fajr

Eat a light, nourishing Suhoor at the hotel and reach the Haram early for Fajr.

  2. Rest

Sleep after Fajr until late morning to save energy.

  3. Dhuhr to Asr

Qur’an recitation and dhikr in the Haram.

  4. Iftar

Dates, Zamzam and light food are distributed generously in the Haram. Arrive well before Maghrib to find a place.

  5. Isha & Taraweeh

Pray Taraweeh behind the Imams of the Haram.

  6. Qiyam al-Layl (last 10 nights)

Late-night prayers in the last ten nights, seeking Laylat al-Qadr.

Best time for Umrah rituals

Crowds are usually lower late at night after Taraweeh, or after Fajr. Avoid going for Tawaf right before Iftar or Taraweeh.

Itikaf in Masjid al-Haram & Masjid an-Nabawi

Itikaf in the last ten days requires prior registration with the authorities of the two Holy Mosques, and places are limited. Ask us in advance if you intend to perform Itikaf.

Staying Healthy While Fasting

  • Drink plenty of water and Zamzam between Iftar and Suhoor.
  • Avoid fried and very salty food at Suhoor.
  • Do not do long walks in the afternoon sun.
  • Elderly or ill pilgrims who cannot fast safely while travelling may use the concession for travellers – consult a scholar.

Ramadan 2027 Umrah packages

Limited seats for first, middle and last Ashra departures. Book early for the best hotels.
